The Maryland English Language Learning Family Involvement Network 16th Annual Conference

The Maryland English Language Learning Family Involvement Network (MELLFIN) will be holding its 16th Annual Conference on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center located at 3501 University Blvd. in East Hyattsville, MD. This conference convenes over 500 education professionals and community members from across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.

The theme for this year is: Equip, Empower, & Engage.  Some of the conference topics include refugee mental health, immigration law, academic supports for students across grade levels, and school-based parent engagement strategies.  The program also includes scholarship presentations to Maryland students who are current or former English learners to support them in meeting their post-secondary goals.  

 We are honored to have Veronica Palmer as our keynote speaker.  Ms. Palmer is the co-founder and CEO of Rise Colorado, which works to educate and empower low-income families and families of color to RISE as change agents for educational equity in public school systems.

MELLFIN Scholarships

MELLFIN is excited to distribute multiple Scholarships ($1,000 each) for graduating current or former English learners in Maryland to recognize excellence and to support them in meeting their postsecondary college or career training goals. Please encourage eligible students to apply! Only online applications will be considered for scholarship awards. Additionally, if you would like to contribute to the scholarship funds, donations may be made through our website (www.mellfin.org) . We are thankful for the generous donations from MELLFIN friends and community organizations that make these scholarships possible.
