National Interfaith Anti-Bullying Summit
December 2, 2017 @ 8:00 am - December 3, 2017 @ 5:00 pm EST
Teasing, harassment, and bullying based on real or perceived religious differences have become an increasingly prevalent problem on school campuses. According to a poll conducted in 2017 by ISPU “more than two in five (42%) Muslims with children in K-12 school reported bullying of their children because of their faith.” A child’s sense of belonging is jeopardized when his/her faith is targeted as a source for bullying, which may give rise to mental health issues. In an attempt to target and bring awareness to this problem, AMHP has collaborated with partners from various faith communities, including ISPU, to host the first-ever National Interfaith Anti-Bullying Summit. AMHP and its partners aim to explore causes, prevention, and possible remedies to faith-based bullying occurring in our communities. The primary objective of the Summit, therefore, is to share research and best practices about an increasingly serious problem facing youth of various religious backgrounds.
