Health Equity

Good health is associated with academic success. However, youth who have persistently experienced social disadvantage or discrimination systematically experience worse health or greater health risks than their more advantaged peers. What accounts for the growing health disadvantages that exist among people with lower educational attainment? In this month’s issue, we want to help educators understand why health disparities exist, be able to identify them in their students, and give them strategies to address them.
